Sozo is a Greek word meaning to make whole, to protect, to heal, to restore. That spirit defines everything the Sozo Youth Sanctuary Foundation stands for.

​

Growing up is hard enough — but for children and teens carrying the weight of trauma, the challenges can feel impossible. Trauma doesn’t simply “go away.” It lingers in the body, the mind, and the heart, shaping the way a young person sees themselves and the world around them. Without care and support, the damage can quietly derail a child’s entire future.

 

That’s where Sozo steps in. Serving youth in Western Colorado who are most at risk of “life failure,” Sozo provides therapy, mentorship, and holistic healing when other funding or resources aren’t available. Their mission isn’t just about managing difficult behaviors — it’s about helping young people find true wholeness.

The word Sanctuary is central to Sozo’s vision. It means retreat, safety, belonging. While their long-term goal is to build a full therapeutic community, Sozo is already working every day to create sanctuary through individualized therapy, positive intervention, and safe connections. Each child’s journey is unique, and Sozo meets them where they are — offering healing that touches the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of life.
